Explanation For Picks First off, I'm only doing the top 10 and then skill
positions... With limited explanations.
Darren McFadden is Bill Bellichek's dream come true. This is the coach who plays
linebackers in his goal line packages and actually uses them. He used Troy Brown
at DB. Tell me he wouldn't give up a pick or two to land a guy who at 6'2 and
212 pounds can play WR, QB for trick plays, is reportedly good enough to be an
All- American safety on defense, and oh yeah, he's the best running back in this
year's draft and has 4.3 speed to go along with excellent vision and leadership.
New England already has San Francisco's number one draft pick which may not be
too far off from a top 5 pick if SF doesn't get things going soon! Adding a
couple picks to move up shouldn't scare them off. And for all those saying what
about Maroney?? No problem, Reggie Bush proved that last year. If the RB you
bring in is versatile enough to do other things, it really doesn't matter. You
need two running backs nowadays anyways, and McFadden can fill in at WR and kick
returner if needs be while Laurence Maroney gets his cariies. A split would keep
them both fresh and healthier in the long run. Bellichek loves versatility and
in this year's draft, that's McFadden!
Besides, the thought of splitting McFadden next to Moss would keep Jets coach
Eric Mangini up at night and that's all bellicheck wants anyways.
There will be a slew of RBs jostling for position if all the high profile
juniors come out. The early to mid-twenties could see three or four go. The rest
however may have to wait quite awhile due to the potential availability of so
many good ones. Michael Hart will be the biggest name that doesn't here his name
called in the first round. At 5-9 and 195 pounds, with slow NFL speed, he's a
2nd rounder at best and a 4th rounder at worst- unless of course you're
measuring his heart which is top 5 all the way.
Don't believe any WR hype this year. There are a few prospects that could move
up into round one based on fast 40 times, but by and large there are a bunch of
2nd and 3rd round picks with very few bouncing into the first round.
