The Detroit Lions and success have not been in the same sentence much of lately; unless your talking about grabbing the first wide receiver in the NFL draft each year because they are very successful at that.
4 of the last 5 NFL drafts have consisted of the Lions grabbing the first wide receiver in the draft. Let us see how that right there has turned out for the franchise. In 2003 they drafted a kid named Charles Rogers out of Michigan State and the guy is now out of the league. Wow! Nice pick Mr. Millen. In 2004 they drafted Roy Williams out of Texas and this actually has turned out to be quite a nice pick up for the Lions. In 2005 guess what they picked another wide reciever but this time out of the highly talented college of USC. Another bad choice since now he is in Oakland with Coach Kiffin. In 2007 they drafted the so called "Man Child" in Calvin Johnson out of Georgia Tech. Time will only tell but I am going to assume he is going to be good.
The Lions have jumped out of the gates and are now sitting at 2-0. They jumped out to and early lead against the Raiders just to see them come back and make a game of it. The R-A-I-D-E-R-S made a game out of it. Did you hear me? The Raiders made a game of it. Impressive or lucky win? It is an opinion but I do believe it was lucky.
Then last week they played the Minnesota Vikings and had a 10 point lead with 6 minutes left and almost lost the game but pulled it out in overtime with a field goal. The Vikings basically gave them the opportunity to beat them with a costly fumble in overtime and they were the team with the momentum. They are the Vikings though.
So after reading that how good do you think the Lions really are? Well I have to believe they have been the team that is supposed to surprise everyone for the last 3 years. Been pretty predictable so far. They have been bad. Simple as that. I do not see them being the playoff team everyone has them being. They have beat BAD teams so far. We will see how they do after the bye week. I mean after Roy Williams and Jon Kitna start making their usual bone headed predictions like we saw last year.
They also have some good defensive teams coming up in the likes of Chicago twice before the midway point, Washington, and I believe Tampa Bay and Philly will get things going on the defensive side of the ball. My prediction for the Lions this year is to go 6-10. I know some people will say now that means they will go 4-10 the rest of the season and that can not happen with this start. They are the Lions. Well look at this factor. Packers and Bears twice, Broncos, Chargers, and Cowboys are all better teams. Then Chiefs have a guy named Larry Johnson who is pretty good and will get it going. Then the possibillity of a shootout with the Giants and Cardinals is very much likely. The odds are not in their favor to do much better then 4-10 the rest of the way. We will find out now won't we.
Bold Prediction of the week: Kitna will not throw a touchdown or a interception this week. Just kidding they are on a bye week. Real prediction is that Josh McCown looks like Peyton Manning in a blowout of the high powerful Browns offense. 38-13. (4 TDs, 415 yards, 2 INTs and his first Win as a Raider)

We are currently in the process of getting some writers for every NFL team. Obviously some are already covered for example the Ravens, Dolphins, Giants and Chiefs. We currently just got a Cowboys writer so look forward to that. All Scouting reports are currently being worked on look for them by the opening of the site on September 1st.
If you would like to write at all please contact me at either email address. admin@sport-buzz.com or yboord028@aol.com . Thanks
